Neck lift surgery is advised for women and men, whose neck started to sag due to the ageing or excessive weight loss. Usually it is advised to perform this cosmetic surgery procedure on clients between 40 – 70 years old. Our cooperating clinic has the age limit of 60 years of age due to general anaesthetic. Neck lift is performed under general anaesthetic and the surgery takes 2–3 hours.
It will be necessary to stay overnight at the cosmetic surgery clinic, normally for 2 nights and this is included in the price of your cosmetic surgery package. Once you are discharged you will be taken every 2–3 days for a free check up with your Prague plastic surgeon at the clinic. The minimum stay in Prague is 7 days, but the recommended stay is between 10–12 days depending on the extent of the surgery chosen. Classical stitches are used by the surgeon externally which need to be removed 10–12 days after the surgery, internally dissolving sutures are used which do not need to be removed.
NECK REJUVENATION PROCEDURES:
- Liposuction – works well particularly in the younger neck. Better results are achieved with liposuction on a woman’s neck as a man’s skin is thicker and less elastic than a woman’s. Plastic surgeons perform under chin liposuction.
- Correction of Chin and front part of the Neck with Liposuction – solving excess fat and stretched muscles in the neck area – also called turkey gobbler band muscles.
- Endoscopic assisted Neck Lift + bottom Jaws Lift – If you have significant excess skin a neck lift may be the best approach. The skin is pulled up and back and the excess skin is removed. The incisions are hidden behind the ears. An endoscopic Neck Lift can be combined with Liposuction when the fat deposits in the neck can be removed. If you have visible vertical bands in your neck, the neck muscles will need to be tightened in the midline.
IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING A NECK LIFT (NECKLIFT) …
As people age, the effects of gravity, exposure to the sun and the stresses of daily life can be seen in their faces. Some people develop wrinkling and sun damage in their face and neck. Some people seem to lose facial fat, while others accumulate fat in the neck and maintain good skin tone. Others may develop more exaggerated signs of ageing in their neck.
A neck lift can not stop this ageing process. What it can do is „set back the clock“improving the most visible signs of ageing by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles, and redraping the skin of your neck. A neck lift can be done alone, or in conjunction with other procedures such as a face lift, forehead lift, under chin liposuction, or eyelid cosmetic surgery.
THE BEST CANDIDATES FOR A NECK LIFT (NECKLIFT)
The best candidate for a neck lift is a man or woman whose neck has begun to sag, but whose skin still has some elasticity. Most patients are in their forties to sixties, but facelifts can be done successfully on people in their seventies or eighties as well.
A neck lift can make you look younger and fresher, and it may enhance your self-confidence in the process. But it can’t give you a totally different look, nor can it restore the health and vitality of your youth. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with the plastic surgeon.
PREPARATION FOR A NECK LIFT (NECKLIFT)
You should come to the operation without make-up. Pharmaceuticals containing acetylsalicylic acid (Acylpirin, Aspirin, and Anopyrin etc.) should not be used for 3 weeks before the Neck Lift cosmetic surgery, as they decrease the clotting time of blood.
If you are a smoker you are advised to stop smoking or at least to cut down on cigarettes. Smoking slows down the recovery process and it can also increase a risk of complications. Smoking significantly reduces your body’s superficial circulation and vascularity. This means difficulty in bringing much needed oxygen to your tissues for proper healing.
OPERATION – NECK LIFT (NECKLIFT)
Neck lift rejuvenation can last several hours and is performed with a combination of general (intravenous) anaesthesia and local anaesthesia (a so called neurolepanaesthesia). If endoscopic surgery is performed only small incisions are placed underneath the chin. This way the surgeon tightens the neck muscles.
Often the plastic surgeon performs liposuction, when he uses little straw-like cannulas to suction the fat away. If you have significant excess skin a neck lift may be the best approach. The skin is pulled up and back and the excess skin is removed. The incisions are hidden behind the ears.
Scars take 9 to 18 months to fully mature, gradually they became smoother and the color will change from purple to pink and whitish. After making the incisions the surgeon lifts and separates the fat and skin from the underlying muscles. The plastic surgeon has to lift enough to ensure that when the skin is tightened all creases and folds are minimised. The skin of the neck will be lifted nearly down to the collarbone and across your entire neck.
POST-OPERATIONAL COURSE – NECK LIFT (NECKLIFT)
During the first few days after the operation, it is necessary to sleep strictly on your back so as to prevent swelling on one side or, as the case may be, larger post-operational bruises.
The speed of the healing is individual. Swellings and bruises clear up over 14 days. After the operation places with decreased sensitivity can occur on the skin of the neck. If the operation is performed with the double chin liposuction then either a plaster cast or a special bandage will be necessary in the post-operational period.
A bandage will be placed underneath your chin and an elastic bandage is wrapped around your neck and head. It is important that you continue to wear the compression garment for at least 2 weeks 24 hours per day and for the following 14 days for most of the day and night. The reason is that the layers of the neck have been separated in the surgical process. Then redistributed and repositioned. These layers will have to re adhere properly to each other and that takes about 4 weeks.
Weight reduction is recommended before surgery itself, not after the operation. After a few days, the bandages are removed, and after 3 weeks you can go back to your everyday activities. Over the next several months, as the healing process occurs, the soft suppleness of the neck skin will return. You are advised to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun for at least 3 months after treatment.
HOW WILL I FEEL AFTER THE NECK LIFT (NECKLIFT) SURGERY?
You will probably feel tired, sleepy and suffer from pain particularly in 1–3 days after the surgery. You will be given some painkillers and tablets for reducing the swelling. The surgeon will also prescribe antibiotics as a prevention against any potential infection.
You might also feel unhappy after a few days. This is normal and is caused due to the stress, general anaesthetic, lack of patience with the healing problems, more pain than you expected or the fact that because you have undergone neck lift cosmetic surgery abroad you miss your home and family.
Some clients suffer from constipation. We advise you to bring some gentle medication or you can buy it in Prague.
IS THE RECOVERY AFTER NECK LIFT (NECKLIFT) PAINFUL?
Many of our clients report they did not suffer major pain. but remarked on the discomfort experienced. The plastic surgeon will, however, prescribe painkillers before you leave the clinic. However, when you will be leaving the clinic you will be prescribed painkillers by the surgeon. You will probably feel discomfort, swelling, heaviness, and numbness in the areas where surgery was performed.
POSSIBLE RISKS AND COMPLICATIONS – NECK LIFT (NECKLIFT)
The specific risks and the suitability of a neck lift for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications are rare.
