When Prague becomes a winter wonderland
December is a wonderful month to have surgery here at Beauty in Prague. Many businesses close down in the UK over this period, making it easier for you to come over for surgery, rather than taking holiday.
Prague Christmas Markets run from 28th November to 6th January 2016.
Prague Christmas markets are open daily in Old Town Square and on Wenceslas Square. The festive atmosphere, the food, the hot wine, the stalls and the decorations help turn Prague into a winter wonderland.
Christmas markets are the thing that brings the festive magic here in Prague, to life. They light up the city, bringing locals and tourists together to share in the spirit, in a true winter wonderland setting.
The main markets are in Old Town Square and on Wenceslas Square which are both very close to each other. They are both open daily, including Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Christmas markets consist of brightly decorated wooden huts selling traditional handicrafts: glassware, jewellery, embroidered lace, wooden toys, metalware, ceramics, scented candles, Christmas tree ornaments, hats, gloves and scarves, and puppets and dolls beautifully dressed in traditional costumes. You should find some nice items to take home, to decorate your houses or to use as Christmas gifts.
Prague Christmas markets are not just about shopping options. You can watch several traditional foods being made and sample many of our local delights. You can try Prague ham, which is roasted on spits, barbequed sausages (klobása) which are really unhealthy but so wonderfully tasty, and if all the hot savory food does not fill you up, you can try a local delicacy for dessert, Trdelník, a hot sugar coated pastry, sometimes filled with cream or covered in nutella, either way, you do not want to miss out on this.
To accompany the food, you can try some famous Czech beers – Pilsner Urquell, Staropramen and Budvar or partake in some hot wine (svařené víno or svařák), which will really get you in the mood for Christmas.
Most impressive of all is the Christmas tree in Old Town Square, shipped in from Česká Lípa, which is north of Prague. The tree is erected and draped in thousands of lights. It is switched on every night around 5pm, and makes a spectacular sight, set against Prague’s dark gothic skyline. The festive atmosphere in Prague throughout December is simply wonderful!
Prague Christmas markets are free to enter.
